Homecoming dance is one of the most precious and memorable experience one can have from high school. It is a day to cherish forever. But for some, such a day can only be a dream.

17 year old Daniel Rivas has Down’s syndrome. But that didn’t stop him from dreaming to go to the homecoming dance. His mom Tonya Rivas was also excited for her son. But sadly, Daniel was turned down by every girl in the school… until a girl with a heart of gold stepped up.

Kylie Fornius, a 10-th grader decided to ask Daniel out to the homecoming dance. Kylie was a girl who never discriminated a person for their disability. “I don’t think of kids that have a disability as being different,” Kylie says. “I hope I can make his night fun.”

Daniel’s mom was touched by the kindness of Kylie. “It’s not about that Daniel has a disability. It’s that Kylie didn’t see any disability… That is what your heart wants as a mom.” The teen’s simple act of kindness prompts a night of surprises no one could have imagined!

Daniel and Kylie were both surprised to see the Fox 5 Surprise Squad at their doorsteps. They were not prepared at all for what was going to happen.

The Surprise Squad arranged a night full of surprises… and at the end of the night, Daniel broke to tears of joy. You will be equally surprised when you watch the video below. Just a tip though, keep those Kleenex handy… you’ll need them.
